What Clothing Materials Cannot Be Ironed | My Butler Service

Ironing your clothes correctly is not as easy as most people think. With all the different temperature settings and fabric types, getting wrinkles out of your clothes can be a stressful task. Knowing which clothing materials can be ironed and those that can’t be ironed can help improve your ironing experience. Keep reading to learn about the different fabrics that cannot be ironed.

What clothes can you iron?

Denim

You do not need to iron denim materials after removing them from the dryer. Although some blends may require some ironing, most wrinkles are nothing to worry about, and they will clear fast and easy. What if you need to iron it? Firstly, check the recommended ironing instructions on your clothing’s label. If the label is missing, iron on high heat using a damp towel. If it is dry, use a spray bottle to pre-moisten for perfect results.

Wool

If you are on the lookout for fabrics that don’t have to be ironed during winter, this is probably the perfect choice. No matter how many times you wash it, wool is easy to deal with and will go back to its original shape and size after washing. If you ever need to iron your wool fabrics, be sure to use a press cloth and iron on medium heat, and it’ll be wrinkle-free in minutes.

Polyester

These do not wrinkle easily and don’t have to be ironed. If you cannot find clothing that is 100% polyester, go for a blend that has no less than 65% polyester for minimal wrinkles. How can you iron polyester? Well, first to dampen the clothing using mist from a spray bottle. And use low or medium heat to avoid burning the soft material. Be sure to focus only on problem areas.

Cashmere

This is a fibre made from the skin of cashmere goats. If well-maintained, you may not need to iron it. If your cashmere clothing ever gets wrinkles, you can use wrinkles release sprays or hang it on your shower rack. The shower steam will help zap the creases.

Spandex

This is usually common in sport and workout clothes. However, it is also used with other fabric blends to make dress shirts. Despite its wrinkle-resistant nature, chances are you may need to straighten it at some point. When this happens, you can steam them in the shower or use a fabric steamer to remove wrinkles.

Lyocell

Commonly known as Tencel, this rayon is resistant to wrinkles and requires little or no ironing. But if you think your Tencel needs straightening, you can still do it without using an iron and ironing board. How? Put ice cubes in your dryer with the wrinkled Tencel and run it for at least 10 minutes. When the ice cubes melt, they will create a steam-like feel that will remove wrinkles and leave your clothes neat and appealing.

If you’re the type that loves quick fixes, hair straighteners can also set you straight. You can also use the flat iron to press your dress shirt collar to remove wrinkles. Be sure to adjust the temperature settings to read high for cotton and low for silk and wipe off any product from the plates before use.
